Last Thursday, ICE removed 150 Mexican nationals back to their home cities pursuant to the Interior Repatriation Initiative (IRI), a reinstated joint US-Mexico program.
The IRI program aims to remove Mexican nationals who attempt to cross the US-Mexico border illegally back to the interior of Mexico to avoid recidivism.
Mexican nationals are being flown by ICE into Guadalajara International Airport in Guadalajara, Mexico rather than being released at the border.
The Mexican government then provides transportation to their cities of origin for those repatriated. These IRI flights are expected to continue indefinitely and apply to those who are subject to expedited removal at the border.
