FINAL DREAM ACT VOTE SET FOR SATURDAY
Support America’s youth! The best and last shot for the DREAM Act to be passed in this Congress happens Saturday. On Thursday night Dec. 16, Senate Majority Leader Reid filed cloture on the Dream Act (H.R. 5281) setting the bill up for the critical “cloture” vote in the Senate expected Saturday. The Senate will need 60 votes for Dream to move forward. With the House’s passage of Dream last week, the bill is that much closer to becoming law. You must continue making calls and sending emails to all Senators to urge them to vote “yes” on DREAM when the Senate brings it up for a vote.
The DREAM Act will allow thousands of youth, anxious and willing to contribute to the future of the U.S. to be able to do so without fear of removal. The DREAM Act applies only to those youth who have graduated from a U.S. high school and who are in college or serving in the US armed forces. It is not a blanket amnesty as immigration opponents are trying to mislead the American public. The truth of the matter is, these young people are our neighbors, classmates, and friends or friends of our own children who have been brought to this country by their own parents when they were young. Most have no other “HOME” but here. They are silently contributing to this country and trying to make a positive difference by going to college, and even protecting this country through armed service. Many have been afraid to open up, come forward, perhaps even to you, for fear of reprisal or rejection. The DREAM Act will give these youth the opportunity to continue to make a positive impact in society, and right a wrong brought unto them by their parents through no fault of their own. For this reason, those who wish to contribute to our country should be given the chance.
