ICE ACTIVE IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA

1/10/2018 – Claiming this latest raid was part of a 2013 investigation of 7-11 owners , ICE swooped into 7-11s convenience stores across Northern California and looking for unauthorized workers as part of President Trump’s continued crack down of illegal immigration. Thomas D Homan, ICE Deputy Director and a Senior Official stated, “Businesses that hire illegal workers are a pull factor for illegal immigration and we are working hard to remove this magnet. ICE will continue its efforts to protect jobs for American workers by eliminating unfair competitive advantages for companies that exploit illegal immigration.”

ELSEWHERE IN THE US

ICE officers in Enforcement and Removal (ERO) arrested 22 criminal aliens and immigration violators in Illinois’ Cook and Lake counties during a three-day enforcement action, which ended Monday. The cities and towns impacted included Chicago (9), Cicero (4), Hoffman Estates (1), Palatine (4), Park City (1), Rolling Meadows (2) and Round Lake Beach (1). All those arrested were men between the ages of 20 and 53. Persons arrested during this operation are from the following five countries: Ecuador (1), Honduras (2), Mexico (17), Serbia (1) and Ukraine (1).

Under the Trump administration, officials deported nearly 54,000 immigrants from the interior of the US from Jan. 22 to Sept. 9, a 34 percent increase over the same period last year. Officials and advocates expect the numbers to climb as ICE vowed more enforcement action across the US, including California in the weeks to come.

In an effort to stay ahead of ICE activity, immigrants across the US are resorting to a program called Pase La Voz, enabling immigrant communities to notify each other of areas where ICE is active. All in an effort to remain with their families, many who have resided illegally in the US for years. Given all they have to lose, rather than trying to avoid ICE which has grown more aggressive and active since Trump took office, a better and more forward-lookingstrategy is to seek immigration help before it is too late.
